I was just reading the Poker Chip pr0n and got an idea, this may take some doing but I imagine this may be easier than even my first design I tried to do that didn't go anywhere.

Chip: "The Midnight Room", "The Midnight Lounge" or "Midnight's Casino", Upland, CA (fictional place, obviously)

Concept: Pretty simple really. Have a dark blue sky at night over a casino, have several chip designs (for a tournament set) and have the four suits either around the casino or around the moon (I like the colored suits with the Mayfair club but would it be possible they would have an outline so it would appear easier against the dark background). The bigger the value of the chip, the more full the moon is (5c/25c/$1 would be a new moon, $5/$25 would be a crescent moon, $100 would be a half moon, $500/$1000 would be a three-quarters moon, $5000+ would be a full moon. I haven't thought about what to do with a bounty but I imagine that would be kinda cool to think about. The only reason I'm entertaining the low values is I like the butterscotch color of the 5c chip of the Mayfair club, I may do that for one of the chips, say $5000 if this is strictly a tourney set.

I may go back and ask our residential chip designer for feedback on this one if I can get it off the ground. I tried to do one 4 years ago and it never went anywhere, so maybe this will go well. This is risky but at least I can try to make this an actual design. XD!

UPDATE: moved the casino to Upland, California.

Bart’s Bowl-O-Rama did something similar. Each successive denom has an extra bowling pin on the inlay to denote lowest—>highest chip

Not my pic. Will remove if needed

I didn’t wanna say anything but Manassas is kind of the ghetto of Northern Virginia. At least on the west side

Let me tell you, I lived in the ghetto of Vegas for 2 years and that was an unmitigated Hell. Nice people but across the way from my apartment we had a black guy go on a drug trip and shoot his 4 year old in the head. That was when I decided to leave that area, and now I'm in Upland, California which is fairly nice. I mean it's not a perfect city, but it does what I need it to do plus it's adjacent to Rancho Cucamonga, which is where I lived for 23 years.

I feel you. I grew up in gangland of virginia beach. But since most of northern virginia is affluent and pretty safe...manasssas is as close to ghetto as there is...which is a good thing, but by no means the nicest city in NoVa. But i just thought it was interesting that of all the cities you chose...it was Manassas VA. HAHA

Reminds me of a joke

A family of moles are tunneling through the ground. Since they're blind..they have to rely on their sense of smell. Papa mole pokes his head up and says "I smell butter!"....Mama moles says "Move out the way and let me smell...she pops her head up and says "I smell Pancakes!"....Baby mole is a bit anxious and tries to pop his head up, but Mama mole hasnt moved out the way yet....He says, "All I smell is Mole-Asses"

I like the changing moon phase idea.

I always thought The Moonlight Lounge would be a nice theme.

I'll give you a little history. I lived in Rancho Cucamonga, CA for 23 years. It was nice during the winter and spring, but between May 1 and November 15 of any calendar year, you had one season: hot.

in 2014, my mother retired from work and fell and received a settlement. She immediately thought she was a millionaire and went hog wild going through the money in just six months.

I was struggling to land a job but it was no use. Between loans and payday advances, she left me so far in debt that I was barely able to pay the loans, so when I lost my job in 2016, a friend offered to take me in. She lived in.... Manassas. I went over there and the scenery was beautiful, but keep in mind she grew up in the ghettos of Richmond so I imagine this was nothing new for her. I lived there for 2 months until her lover found a new boyfriend and I watched as my friend of 11 years went out the door and to the even scummier section of Dundalk, Maryland. I really never visited too many places in Northern Virginia but I loved the scenery and changing weather.

With me out of work and out of a home, I had to live where I could and I opted to live in Vegas when I could. That sucked hard. Between 120 degrees during the day and living in the ghetto at night, it was definitely not where I wanted to be. My mom died before I could get her back to Rancho Cucamonga, but I promised her I would make it back and I've been back since 2018.

It's like Ontario out here. Ontario, California has a very gorgeous and opulent upper-middle class feel on the North side but the South side is a big time barrio. I can't begin to tell you how you can tell the difference between the two sides and when you go further south into Chino, it's really barrio. The billboards are in Spanish and you kinda fear being a gringo in that area.

I've already moved the fictional card house to Upland, California so no worries or Man-ass jokes.

Bright solids with a nice dark label would pop well. Your labels base could be a dark black/purple sky with stars or a crescent moon to signify the fact its midnight. That would be pretty damn cool.

Edit. Jist red OP haha. You mentioned the moon already

I was thinking the higher the value of the chip, the closer it would get to a full moon. Start with a crescent, then a half, 3/4 and eventually full moon.

The stars I like. Have it over a casino and have the four suits included, maybe do white spades, red hearts, blue diamonds and green clubs.

Just have Midnight's Casino and Upland, California on the chip, and have the amount of the chip and I think that is how we do it. Have a bounty chip be a comet, now the only other thing I need to think about is whether I want to add other chips like rabbit hunt or rebuy. The only one I really know I will need is bounty.

Edgespots? I'm thinking maybe but if they're too big, they may ruin the overall design of the chip. Basically what I want is a design that will make a 20-year old girl look at it and say "Oh man, I gotta get me one of those". It's already happened with my ceramic sets (both Wicked Spades and Dia De Los Muertos have gotten praise from young ladies)

Yeah I like both ideas. I think you should avoid having the suits though. The design itself sounds baller, probably no need to muddy it up with too much stuff.

I saw this as a sample design. I like the bright yellow 1000 and orange 5000 but the grey spots on the 1k are killing me with blandness. The 5k spots aren't too bad, but I think 8 edge spots is just too many. (the red 5 is also good, that dark blue spot is actually cooler than the 25k chip's blue)
