I just came back after a long hiatus (and a pretty sizeable check from disability) and saw a discussion where many people are buying DDLM 43mm chips during the BRProPoker sale.

This just led to ask a simple question: Is it really worth it? Even with the discount, it's looking like about $102 extra for a set of 500 chips. The designs all look cool and colorful but that's quite a bit extra for a jump of about 10% in size. Also worthy of note is trying to find a case for 43mm chips is kinda hard also.

In spite of that, I'm seeing that the 43mm's are fairly popular. This would help if someone owns a set of DDLM 43's, but I'm going to ask what the major difference is, is the design that much better looking on the bigger chip or what? I'm wondering if I should make the transition or will the 39's do just fine?

The Royals converted me. I absolutely love the feel and look of the 43mm. The reason I didn't pull the trigger on a 43mm DDLM set earlier is because of the cost you mention. But 15% off is the best deal I've seen from BrPro.

I have a sample set of Sunflys (Union Station) and those are 43mm as well. I can say that I love the form factor for China Clay and Hybrid Ceramic. Took the leap of faith on DDLM.

Welcome back... Hope you're doing better!

The 39mm DDLM chips are awesome, IMHO one of the best ceramics you can get. Upgrading to the 43mms just adds some more "wow" factor. You have more chip face area so the artwork is a little bigger and more on display. They're a little heavier/more substantial and handle a bit differently because of the size, but nothing drastic.

I had a set of the 39mm DDLMs that I picked up during the initial offering, and subsequently picked up a barrel of 43mms to use as bounty chips. I liked the 43mms so much that when Gene & Kristil offered the site wide 15% off, I sold the 39mms and "upgraded" to all 43mm via custom order.

The original design was done for 39mm chips, so they graphics look great on either option.

One more point I forgot to bring up. I'm a beginner at some chip "tricks". Chip flick, middle chip twirl, etc. 43mm doesn't really affect this too much. Smaller hands might run into problems, but overall, I'm still able to piss people at the table off with my constant flipping and twirling.

43mm full ceramic, like the DDLM, are definitely going to be heavy, so that might affect it.

Circles are funny. It’s a rule you need to remember when ordering pizzas, if you care about bang for your buck. But the surface area of a 43mm chip is actually over 20 percent bigger than that of a 39mm chip.

I can’t make the direct comparison as I don’t have 39mm, I got the 43mm from the first offering and I’m extremely pleased with them. They are my wife’s favorite and also my players favorite.

I've played with an all 43mm tourney set with non-chippers and no one noticed the size difference from standard chips.

My personal preference is a 39mm main set with oversized 43mm upper denoms to add that extra special feature to the game. You can tell the size difference if you are using both at the same time and IMHO it is pretty damn cool. This feature was the selling point for me to get a set of Dia de los Muertos chips.

Thanks. What happened was my mom died and I had literally nowhere to live. I even left my 39mm wicked spades with my friend for 3 months because of the no house situation. I worked a job for a year and got a roof over my head.

Mom LOVED the GPI Monacos when they were in design so I managed a set of that with my tax refund in 2019 because I figured that was a relatively inexpensive way to get a set of Paulsons finally. She liked those designs the best so I got a set to remember her by.

I literally came back with a huge disability check and saw the 15% off sale and everyone fawning over DDLM's, both 39 and 43 and thought "alright. I'll do it". I went with the 39s because the set would cost about the same as my Wicked Spades set, about $350 for 540 chips.

I might do what you say regarding the bounty chips, but I have to check minimum order size. My other biggest fear of picking up a set of 43's is not being able to find a case for them.

Oh yeah, chip storage :) ... so that's the actual biggest downside. I used an Apache 3800 case with Bud Jones racks for the past 9 months. And it's a good solution. Finally, I got in on some Matsui racks and those fit in a birdcage! So you're looking at a minimum of $60 ($30 for the case and $30 for 6 racks) or $50 (6 Matsui racks + shipping) + a loooooooong wait (unless you get in on the Matsui Group Buy going on now.

Chip storage is only a downside if you chips travel to different games. Otherwise, just keep them in racks

This is precisely the feedback I wanted. Thank you.

So right now it appears as if the 43's

+ bigger chip, probably more sturdy
+ increased wow factor
+ goes well with the DDLM designs

- cost
- since it is a custom order, I would have to do 25 of each design (rn I just added 10 green 25's since I figured the game was never going to go that high)
- storage.

I appreciate that. I probably should order 43's since my Wicked Spades and Monaco's are both 39's, but unless I get some Matsui Racks in, I wouldn't have anywhere to put them.

You can check to see if this group buy has any extra racks. Otherwise, there's nothing wrong with Bud Jones racks and an Apache case. If you're ordering < 600, you might be able to get away with a smaller/cheaper case too.

I personally didn't like mixing-and-matching 39mm and 43mm. Some people have done it, and it's all about preference.

The proofs just came in and I gotta be honest, I love the designs. Check these out!

FYI ABC does have 43mm chip racks, they're just not listed on the site.

At the rate I'm going I'll probably order about 550 chips.

500 for the set (5 cent to $25), 25 bounty and 25 show 'ems. So yeah, it will be under 600. If I keep the 39, I'll probably get a Versa case for them.

I'm talking to them right now regarding the order.

I had a 43mm custom set made from @ABC Gifts and Awards (same as BR) and they are glorious. My players really noticed the difference. Storage is a bit of a trick, but I found some pretty cheap racks. If you want the link for the racks let me know.

When you divide the extra hundred bucks over time, it means little.

If you're placing a decent sized order it couldn't hurt to ask if she can do fewer of the bounty/show em.

The seven money chips will be a 500-chip set. The purple is only because that design is WAY too good to pass up. The orange is because $13 has a nice Halloween/ DDLM theme to it.

Yes please. I read that the Versa case may hold the 43's but it isn't made for it. Getting a home for a set of 43's will be my priority.

If I don't get the Matsui racks, I found Bud Jones and Chipco sets on Apache, run about $5-$6 each. They will have racks. :)

If I get the Matsui, I will have to look at a birdcage for the chips.

Or you can just buy Chipco racks from BR Pro/ABC since you just bought chips from them

That might help me out, if I'm going to spend that much money, might as well ask.

BTW -- how good are standard ABC 43's ceramic chips quality-wise? I know about a year ago ABC had a secret chip you could use but apparently those have never been offered for the 43, so I'm wondering if the 43's are good quality.

I hate to necro a thread but I got my first 43mm samples, the Sunfly 43's. They're a bit light and feel kinda fragile but I can see why you guys like them. The color designs and customization are epic. The chips are absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to see how the Dia De Los Muertos's look when they come in.
