I know that when it comes to finding certain styles/colors etc of Paulsons the search can be quite exhausting. Especially when trying to fill in a set or just find something that would work with another. This forum is the most exciting room I have been privileged to be a part of and has offered some of the nicest chips I have ever seen. I have been posting quite a bit in the Want Ads with no luck. I came across some chips I had expressed interest (in the Want Ads) last night in a sale, only to find that I was too late in staking my claim. Suffice to say, it made my stomach sink. Only 15 minutes of separation and now, consequently, the search will go on. Just very frustrated right now. This happen to anyone else? How do you all deal with it when that sale slips through your fingers?

It happens. If you want them, it’s likely someone else does too.

I recommend contacting the buyer to see what it will take to get them. I’ve done it a few times. :D

Ahhh those are mine. My best take is to enjoy the hunt. For me it’s once you’ve finished the set and spent the money that you go huh, okay. Keep going? New direction? Start new? Sell and reach higher? It’s when I’m actively looking for something that I’m happiest.

Doesn’t have to happen immediately, and you get to understand the lay of the land, who has what privately, etc. Now, all that being said, there’s chips (not super nice or that rare) that I’ve been after for a bit, and have had several sellers promise me them, or offer via pm, and have repeatedly forgotten or sold out from under me. That can be a bit sucky, but you just keep on trucking.

contact the buyer and maybe you can get a catch and release or let them know if they ever think about selling in the future to keep you in mind. also assuming you are on a budget sometimes something better comes down the pike and it works out for the best.

One of the things that might help is to state the price you're willing to pay for the chips you're looking for when you post a WTB ad. Some members, including myself, rarely respond to a WTB if price is not provided. If you have no idea of a reasonable price for you, you can do some research and even contact some members to try and get some insights. I hope you can find the chips you're looking for.

With any luck, the chips you were looking for were bought by @detroitdad . If that's the case, wait a month 3 weeks 5 days 15 hours, they'll be available again.

...but seriously, what ChaosRock said. WTB ads, with price. I have bought chips I haven't been completely happy with, but I hate to post anything up for sale. But a WTB ad might just give me the incentive to move something that someone else may love.

First and Foremost, I mean absolutely NO DISRESPECT to anyone with my post. I love this forum and I understand that it is business so to speak and "Dibs" on a sale or part of a sale are taken very seriously. I am new to the forum and also overly eager to put together the perfect(and probably only) set of Paulsons I may ever own. But watching the classified ads, you all buy up chips like millionaires! I can't say I would not do it either if I could! Truth be told I was after the $500 Roadhouse chips because they, in my mind, would complement the Cincinnati Horseshoe $1 chips beautifully. @Gear got them and the Irony of it is I would have needed to ask for his services for relabeling! But I am open to any other suggestions for a different chip that may work in its place and will keep my eyes open like you all said. Thank you all.

If on the hunt for something in particular, bumping a want and once in a while brings fresh views to the thread as someone may offer you something via a private sale if they have anything they'd be willing to let go of. It sucks that a lot of "dibs" threads result in interested parties missing out for being too slow or for not checking the forums enough. It is what it is though. You have to be lucky a lot of times if you don't get any bites on a wanted ad.

Patience is a virtue, but I know I have very little. Some folks here need years to fill a rack of a specific chip because the quantities are so limited and/or are cost prohibitive. Be patient and what you seek will usually find you, not the other way around.

I did not mean any disrespect. I should have been a bit more persistent with pushing the sale through.
It's happened to me, and I'm sure temp in the most of us. Which ones are you interested in?

Do you plan on relabeling everything or making a custom set? Lots of options for a $500 RHC chip out there. Try posting in the Poker Chip General forum and asking for suggestions there.

Yeah unfortunately most including myself don’t check WTB before posting a sale especially if it’s for a whole set. Much easier to list the set and let others figure out the dibs then sell it off piece by price and ruin the breakdown of the set. Just keep a look out and have patience and be proactive.

Also make sure you "watch" the classified forum so that you get a notification as soon as an ad is posted. There are many people closely watching for new classifieds postings and will post quickly if a good deal or hard to find chip comes up.

Unless you 've already made friends with some other members, WTB ads could be suicidal.
In general, hunting for chips not normally available to the general public can be painful and very-very long. Your @ss is at the disposal of the holder (of them chips).:D
CPC chips, either customs or off-the-shelf (including Key Wests), should be much more gentle on your soul.:)
I have done both (designing and ordering CPC customs and looking for specific Paulsons) and I can tell you I 'd never do the latter again.:)

Build a custom set from CPC!
I gave up ages ago trying to put together a playable set of casino chips from different locations. It’s easier (and more fun) to play in the chiptool and make your dream set. It’ll probably save you a shit ton of money in the long run, too.

If you think it’s frustrating you should try living in a different part of the world. Many’s the time I’ve woken up in the morning to see the chips I’ve been after for ages going up for sale at 2am my time and being sold by 4am  :ROFLMAO: (And don’t start me on auctions that finish at 3:30am my time)

Only thing for it is to whine like a little bitch in the wanted ads often enough that folk start to tag you when chips you might be after go up for sale.
I’ve had a lot of success placing wanted ads (and whining like a little bitch) so I’d recommend that.

If you got all the chips you wanted in the one go it would be boring. To give you an idea of timescale it’s taken me anything from 6 months to 2 years to build up each of my sets and some of them still aren’t complete (Crystal Park fracs anyone?)

And one final thing... be prepared to finally buy those long sought after chips and perhaps pay a bit more than they’re worth only to see someone else putting them up for sale the next day for less than you paid for yours.
