So I'm still waiting for my samples to come in, but currently am thinking of getting this combo for my tourney set.
Pink - 100
Blue - 500
Yellow - 1000
Orange - 5000

There may be a dirty stack issue with the blue and pink, so i may switch the blue and orange. What do you guys think?

Traditional colors work best. It seems that you are trying too hard here, and it might be a mess.

100 black
500 purple
1000 yellow
5000 grey (I think you can get a little funky here, blue/pink/brown)

I'd stick with traditional colors:

100 Black
500 Purple
1000 Yellow
5000 Pink or Grey

Opinions vary . . .

There's a lot to be said for traditional colors. The familiarity gives players a level of confidence and comfort that means they'll like playing with your chips.
If I'm playing with chips of unfamiliar colors and I have to take a second to figure out which chip is which (while I'm trying to think about all the other important things I need to be thinking about during a tournament,) I don't like it. And if I misclick and fire out the wrong chips because I'm not familiar with the colors, I really don't like it.
Do what you want, but you asked for thoughts

Cash $1000s tend to be orange, while tournament 1000s tend to be yellow. Cash $5000s tend to be gray, but tournament 1000s can be a variety of colors, including blue, brown, orange, white, and pink.

Varies by locale and sometimes by governing regulations.

Most important facet of home-use tournament chips is easy-to-read denominations and distinctive colors/spots that will not get confused in pots and stacks.

Cash $1000s tend to be orange, . . .

Honestly, never seen cash $1000 in orange, quick search shows most Vegas casinos are yellow including Aria, Wynn & Bellagio (most popular cash poker games where $1000 comes into play).

edit: maybe orange 1k is AC thing.

Go with what you like, that's the only thing that matters. Get samples and splash pot it to see if stacks dirty up or not. For me, personally, I go with

T100 - Black
T500 - Light Blue/Purple
T1000 - Yellow
T5000 - Orange/Pink

Dirty stacks/pots never been an issue for us with these color denom. Have fun building your set!

None of the people I play with are casino goes by any means so sticking with casino colors isn't a must. I'm looking more for unique color combos that set aside from the dice chips we've been using.

Listen, you got advise from several people on a poker chip forum telling you that traditional colors work well. If you decide to go crazy, they are your chips....live it up! Just understand that you are going to have some problems arise with confusion and mis bets due to non-traditional colors....even if those colors are well marked on your chips. It's just going to happen. You got good advise here. Take it or don't...but go forward with the wisdom others have tried to give you.

Best of luck.

I say go for whatever colours you like.

A non-black 100 has been used in the WSOP:

As has a blue 500:

And a yellow 1k and orange 5k

You need to expand your horizons. :)

Orange $1000 cash chips are required in casinos located in Connecticut, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Wisconsin, among others -- and pretty much every single US state east of the Mississippi River that allows gambling, except Missouri. Many of those jurisdictions require a yellow $20 chip, hence the requirement for an orange $1000.

Nevada doesn't have hard color requirements for cash chips, but at least a dozen Vegas casinos currently use (or have used) orange cash $1000 chips. Some Nevada casinos have used both orange and yellow for $1000 chips at one time or another.

Here are just a few orange $1000 cash chips from casino chip sets commonly seen around here on PCF:

So yeah, most cash $1000 chips are orange in the USA. And yellow is the most common color for T1000 tournament chips.

ok, neat.

Anyhow, I stand by my original statement ". . . most Vegas casinos are yellow including Aria, Wynn & Bellagio (most popular cash poker games where $1000 comes into play).". After all, this is the POKERchipforum and the mass majority of $1000 chips used for casino CASH poker are yellow.

p.s. Missouri is WEST of the mississippi.

I just died, and these were in heaven when I went there

I have used non traditional colors for years. No one cares as long as the denomination is printed on the chip. Just go with what you like.

I used non-traditional colors in my old set, but they were labeled with denominations--white 5c, purple 25c, green $1, black $5. Nobody ever seemed to have problems remembering which chip was which.

If I'm working with non-denominated chips, I would try to stick to more traditional colors to avoid confusion.

Oh ya def going to be denominated chips, trying to decide if i should go custom labels or not too

Sorry, true. You listed a load of canceled, not in use or just plain closed casino chips. Again, in casino poker cash games where 1k chips are in play, the majority are yellow.
Lol, just because you've now said it twice doesn't make it true, sir. Fifty more to go.

Do the math..... it's not even close to half.... mostly because there are three major color contenders in the running just in the US alone (orange, yellow, and maroon/reddish-brown). They play poker in a whole lot more places than just three popular casinos in Las Vegas. It wouldn't surprise me to see yellow as third on the list overall -- there's a crap-ton of card rooms (where poker is played) in California alone. And very few use yellow $1000s, since that color is typically used for $5 chips.

The number of yellow $1000 cash chips is quite small compared to the sum of the alternatives. It is far from being a majority.

I originally said "never seen orange". The question was Poker cash game, in casino, Orange vs. Yellow. You've posted a neat-o picture with a ton load of obsolete, some NEVER EVEN IN PLAY chips. As many times as you cloud the discussion with irrelevant statements and fancy pictures, the truth will set you free. Yellow > Orange.

Meanwhile, hoping you have a great evening ! :)

@BEANO52 When this thread is 6% of your total posts on the forum, and you're arguing with a recognized expert who has over 20,000 posts over the last 6 years.... ya might just want to defer to their expertise.

He posted lots of just plain false information, clouded the conversation with nonsensical smoke & mirrors, and avoided debating every fact, but ya, thanks for the tip.

What are we fighting over now? Wait.... color me I don't care.

I’m going to make a complete non standard color set with the AS cash chips.

Blue 100, red 1000’s
