I'm just about at that point.

I have a Paulson RHC cash set, two CPC tournament sets (Rounders and Key West), a BCC tournament set, and a set of Majestic China Clays cash set that actually was used at a friend's home game over this past weekend.

I'm building a '98 CDI cash set, and have a custom CPC set on the way later this year. I don't plan on selling any of these sets.

Between eventually having three cash sets (and a 4th on the way) and three tournament sets when all is said and done, I really think that I'm just about at "chip nirvana". I will probably host 15-18 times this year, approximately 12 cash games and 3-6 tournaments, I honestly can't justify more chips, as each cash set would probably see play three times yearly, and each tournament set a maximum of twice yearly if I rotate use evenly.

I already know I'm priced out of most Paulson tournament chips, boat chips, and TRK's, and I'm not a fan of plastics or ceramics, so after finishing my '98 CDI cash set and getting my CPC customs, the only other thing I can think that I may buy is a tournament denomination add on whenever CPC 44mm molds run again, which may be 1-2 years from when they run again later this year.

Frankly, that makes me sad. I'm sure I'll still follow around here and keep up to date on meetups and admire the pron, but I can honestly say I'm close to Chip Nirvana outside of chasing down some sample sets that I've been after *coughBTPandSBcashandPacificStarsamplescough*.

I'm sure the more experienced folks here can chime in and have been through this. How did ya'll cope when this feeling hit you?

Ugh I’ve been just realizing it myself too. Such a weird problem to have.

Following-

You will sell some sets and get some more expensive ones. Rinse and repeat.
In my short time here I've been as wishy washy as they come. I've bought and sold off an entire HS Cincy cash set and a few racks of chips here and there that I was going to start a set with but decided against it. What I do have now, though, I really am going to hold onto. I love the origin stories behind the Key West and Rounders chips, and I already make my set of Jack's semi custom with Gear labels and all. Those are going nowhere. I MAY sell the BCC set one day if and when I get a custom CPC tournament set, as I don't host that many tournaments, but it's honestly not worth the trouble at this point.

'98 CDI's? Yeah, going nowhere. Customs? No resale value.

Honestly the prices of the boat chips turn me off. Unless they come down to $3/chip (yeah right!) I don't see myself buying any. That's my proverbial "line in the sand" in terms of what I'd pay for a clay disc.

TRK's? Maybe, but they're so rare to begin with and fracs are so hard to come by that I don't think a whole set of them is sensible.

yes

In my early poker days, we had a player that would hoard all of the quarters. He would stack them in rows ten high along the rail. I hit and knocked down his wall on more than one occasion. Re-stacking those dice chips twenty high is what lead me to chipping.... oh wait, not the chipping wall you are talking about. Never mind.

It doesn't look like you have a limit set yet. :whistling:
I don't play limit  :ROFLMAO:

Don't think I could talk my crew of regs into playing it either. You should have seen some of their faces when I taught them basic PLO :p

There's always something else out there!! We have many sets in our short time on PCF, (6) cash sets... and we only host tourneys!! @FordPickup92 bought a barrel of 36mm horseshoes for me because I said I was interested. We loved them, the sale came up last weekend... boom something different but still clay, yet another set in rotation!

In my opinion you are hinting around a possible next step... TRKs, they are rare and difficult to locate, but that's what makes it fun!!
You still get the joy of the hunt, but for racks that will take years to fill! Ask anyone Trying to build a pick Hobson's Frac rack!! Lol

But... I also understand for someone like @Ronoh who has the perfect custom set with the Pillage and Plunder both cash and tourney... what is the next step in chipping.

This is why it is that much more impressive that people like @BGinGA, @pltrgyst, @RainmanTrail and @detroitdad stick around after owning tons of grail sets, sharing their vast knowledge with the community! It seems like some members grab the chips they need, meet a few locals and go back to their regular life! Are you a collector or just and enthusiast? Very interesting topic though... I'm sure the though has crossed most seasoned members brains, curious as to some of more seasoned collectors comments. Following!!

My good friend @Chippy McChiperson how would you respond to this one? Owning so many amazing sets sir?

I thought I was done, then had the good fortune to be in on the BTP buy, and then CPC acquired the S-crown mold so I ordered a Nirvana cash set, then CPC announced they were making Chesterfields on the plain mold, so I ordered some of them, too. Long story short, there's always something new and exciting that comes up, and I have a problem lol

I just don't know about TRK's. Except for the Mapes and Pick Hobson's, I'm just not a fan of most TRK chips aesthetically (waiting for the firing squad for that one). Between that and the aforementioned scarcity of fracs, I don't see myself building a set. I'm too obsessive compulsive to build a mixed set, and I don't have the patience to literally fill a rack chip by chip.

Next step for me honestly is buying cut cards, dealer buttons, maybe some custom playing cards to go with my custom CPC's. Also going to commission a table with the CPC custom theme in mind. That'll take up a lot of my bankroll and be a substitute for chips in terms of money spent.

Of course I'll always be an enthusiast and be by to admire the pron of all of the beautiful chips, but I'm running out of space on my sample shelf, so besides what I have a wanted ad out for, I don't see myself adding much to that, either.

Crap I forgot about the LCOs. See, new great chips are popping up all the time.

Completely depends on your personality IMHO. Some folks never really "own" chips - they rent them for a few years (or months or weeks) - either because they like variety or always want the next shiny new "in" thing. Others like me just continue to add on to their collections over the years. I host on average once to twice a month, and have 20 sets. Some get used a few times a year, others far less, and others practically never because I'm saving them for a purpose.

Its the same for many hobbies and such with life. Some folks have a new car every six months. My truck is 17 years old....

I don't like change

Okay. The suspense is killing me. For what purpose are you saving the chips?

Aurora Star chips are fantastic value chips. The fracs, 1s, 2s, snappers, all go for below 3 a chip and they look good on the table at the same time too!

I bought a few sets until I narrowed down what I wanted and what I didn’t. I sold the rest of them...even my random singles.

I now own Majestic cash and tournament sets...along with a nice Crystal Park/Motor City Quarter Cash set that I still add onto when I find good deals, rare CP secondary chips, or the rare high CP denominations. I also have a framed set of single chips of places I’ve played at.

Other than that, I find a dealer button or cut cards here and there. I lurk but for all practical purposes, I’ve hit the wall as you said.

I've hit a wall before, it's ok. Although for me, it wasn't feeling sad, more overwhelmed (and running out of storage space).

One time I thought I should just go ahead and post in this thread: The Official Unofficial Chip Hoard Pr0n Thread of PCF!

When the Jacks chips came out, I was excited about that sale, and I had been planning for weeks to make a large purchase, including some high denom/high price chips. I had it all planned out, I had come up with a couple ideal chip breakdowns in a spreadsheet, and was planning to go to the office, the day of the sale, where my internet connection is speedier to be able to click the links faster. But when the morning of the sale came around, I looked at some of the chip sets I had, felt content and I just stayed home and sat that sale out. It was really weird, but I had no regrets on missing out, or staying on the sideline. Although I'd be lying if I didn't come close to pulling the trigger on a rack of Jacks $25s when they came up on the classified, but I never ended up buying any Jacks chips. I still enjoy seeing what other collectors have done with their Jacks sets though -- different chips to use as frac relabels, relabeled $100s as $1s, etc.

Enjoy your time away from the computer/phone not glued to the classifieds or eBay. Post chip pr0n in the home game thread, or live stacks thread.

I'm in the same camp about the super high priced chips. And I'm fine with that. In place of high-priced chips, I did start collecting less expensive Paulson solid chips, in various used conditions, and that's been kind of an ongoing project for me for a few years.

Yep, I've hit the wall a few times. I hit it again recently, so I decided to order some Abbiatis  :ROFLMAO:. I've mostly moved on to epic sample set collecting though. But one day I'll add a nice limit set to my collection. Although, it'll have to to be the perfect set for me to want it. I haven't seen it yet. Might have to design my own.

I haven't hit the wall yet. I would like to have a ceramic cash set and a ceramic tournament set, although I am happy with the chips sets that I have now.

As far as obtaining a grail set. This is a hobby. There are other things in life. (i.e. I don't have the kind of money to spend 7K or 8K on a set of chips)

Christ, with the crew I play with, I would never be able to relax having chips on the table that set me back $800 a rack. I would be on tilt.
