I'm looking to put together a THC leaded set and was wondering what are the potential sets out there.

Here is what I've gathered thus far (do correct me if I'm mistaken)
  • PCA
  • LCO
  • Outpost
  • Aztar
  • Empress
  • Nevada Hotel & Casino
  • B.J. Games
Hoping to learn of other hidden sets out there!

If fantasy sets are acceptable, then ‘98 Isthmus City, Viva Las Vegas, Fabulous Las Vegas, Le Cove, Casino De Mexico, Horseshoe Gardena, etc., are all leaded, inlaid THC sets.

If hotstamps are okay, then starburst and cherries could work, too.

Good luck with your search! You’ve come to the right place.

Is there a surefire way to determine a leaded Paulson chip, i.e., weight?
Anything before something like 1992? For 39mm definitely anything over 10g per chip but some can be lighter especially if worn while some new RHCs can be well over the typical 8.5g for non-leaded chips.

The age old question and for research there's no true answer... most of us go by weight... for me under 9 grams an easy no and over 10.25 an easy yes... in between call an expert! Lol

The best indicator I know is date of manufacture, but that is not a discernible/physical characteristic of a chip. Others will have better answers here.

I believe the switch to unleaded took place around 1998, but also seem to recall BG providing a far more detailed explanation as to when lead was no longer used, and was able to list some exceptions made during the first few years of non-leaded production.

If I recall correctly I believe when these issues came up, vegas had a machine that measured lead content in chips and had an acceptable level and obviously a fail/these must be removed from play! We need to get our hands on that machine. Curious its size, it would be awesome to bring to meet ups and run peoples chips to check for lead content and come up with a list of chips that are and are not! Damn thing probably costs 10 grand though!

Weight can vary widely by chip color, too. Yellow vs. gray WTHC comes to mind, though that particular set is not leaded.

I've always read about these weight difderences for 39mm chips. Like 8.5/9 vs 10.5. Anyone ever compared 43mm chips leaded vs not?
Not a great scale for weighing single chips but this gives you an idea.

Agreed color plays a big role but even some same color chips vary like some hotstamp basic reds that weighed nearly 13g per :nailbite:

OK, found two minty 39mm THC's with a dramatic difference in weight, almost 2 grams (9.80 g vs 11.71 g). Very accurate scale. See attached, clearly non-leaded vs. leaded. That Horseshoe Club chip is hefty! (Now I know why 11.5 gram slugged chips are called "casino weight"!)

wow thats quite a difference.
Are most leaded chips this weight as well or it varies from set to set?

@ReallyGoodUsername less than $20 and the size of a phone. I love this damn thing!! Get you one brother!!!
I had the same one as @BirdCage but sold it to @navels i want to say? It’s nice to have but I don’t need to know single chip weights down to the .1 gram anymore so it got the boot.

I can still figure out the precise weight I’d just need about a barrel and then just divide.

But... what if you're out in public say at a yard sale and need to know the weight of some chips! Or say your at the club and someone needs cash and has a pocket full of chips to sell! Lmao ok not likely also the cops would be very interested in why you are carrying a grams scale around! #chipperslife! Always on the serch!!

You are not recalling correctly.

And for the other end of the weight scale, a new/minty live Golden Nugget Paulson house mold only weighs 8.24 grams (3.5 grams less than some leaded chips!) The average is more like 8.35 grams for the Golden Nugget, but there are some lighter ones in the group. They look and feel thick, just light. Older Golden Nugget house molds weighed over a gram more (like most older house molds). A live MGM RHC is also on the lighter side at just over 9 grams. See pix below.

The composition must still be evolving. Hopefully now they are formulated lighter and stronger - wear less quickly? Very interesting. (No lead here - maybe carbon fiber dust!)

I’m looking for an opposite list. Which THC sets are confirmed (if that’s possible) to have no lead.
