I feel like this has probably already been covered, but as a new chipper I think it would be interesting to hear how the more experienced got into chipping and maybe a little about your first sets.

I started playing with my friends, my buddy had Paulson classics and CDI chips. I wanted to get my own so I could host the games. I was hanging at home poker tourney, found the asm link, decided to make customs, then found chiptalk, rest is history

Went searching for an upgrade to a set of hologram chips for our home games. Saw a custom set on 2+2 in the home poker forum, which led me to ChipTalk and a set of Chipcos. I figured I'd only need one set...now I have four.

Bought a keychain in Vegas with a poker chip in 92 after seeing Grateful Dead three night run at Silver Bowl. Always liked that chip And key chain. got into chips about 10 years later.

Like most things in life, whatever rabbit hole you are in probably runs pretty deep. I don’t poke around a ton of rabbit holes, but I go DEEP into the ones I have and I stay there for life. I’m not the kinda guy to get into a hobby for a year and bounce. So I only have a few.

I found this rabbit hole in my quest to improve my weekly home game when I was young. I remember calling Paulson when I was 23 naively thinking I could get a custom set done. They were not nice. Luckily I found CPC. It warms my heart that other clowns out there had my same naive dream and some of those folks had enough persistence to make it a reality.

My journey was dice chips - CPC - Paulson - Matsui - Matsui - ???? My wife green lighted me getting another set but I’m not sure what I want. So many fun options.

I might take a flier in the wsop instead. If I have to be honest poker is my love and chips are just the fine ass tools of the trade.

I wanted some board game chips. Found chiptalk from there. Then felt like starting a home game.

I bought a friend a 500-piece set of metal slugged chips as a housewarming present off Amazon, and was instantly jealous that his chips were nicer than my 300-pc set I had for years.

Started doing research online, found the Hobbyphilic videos, and eventually PCF.

Joined, bought some cheaper chips, then was invited to a home game where the first time I played was with mint Paulsons - Big Top Poker.

It was a wrap after that.

Las Vegas was the first trip I took with my future wife. At that point in life, we didn't have a lot of money or space in our suitcases, so we grabbed $1 chips from the various casinos we visited as a souvenir. It's been a rabbit hole since

When i started watching poker on TV (moneymaker 03) I would see players shuffling their chips and I thought it was sooooo cool. Even the way the pros would divide the chips and raise the pot there was a certain flair or finesse that i had never seen before. So when i would hold chips I was always trying to learn what I thought was proper poker form!
Chips have power because we add a value to them so whenever I was at the casino i would always love holding them and having a stack in front of me. The feeling is like when you're a kid and you walk into an arcade room with $100 to blow on tickets and you load, the tickets are so important to you.
The lights, the names, the history, MONEY women, vice, VEGAS BABY! Everything draws a young man in and these chips are the center of it all. The reason vegas stands, the reason vegas has a heartbeat.

BTW i still suck at shuffling chips. Maybe its the sausage fingers i have no clue. Hope you like my heartfelt response hahaha

I wanted to upgrade my dice chips because we used the same chips for tournaments and cash AND I got tired of repeating which color was what denomination.

I found this site and had no idea the options available. I didn’t know I could buy real casino chips!! It started from there!

I had a great uncle who used to tell he played for the Shreveport Snappers and was about to get called up to the bigs, but blew his knee out stealing second base.......

I took over a long-running home game (after the first host moved to another state, the second got divorced, and the third had his house foreclosed on).

In general I wanted to try to upgrade the game a bit. The last of these hosts turned over three cases of the dirty dice chips we’d been using for years. I felt there had to be some better options.

After misfiring with a couple of (now very embarrassing) Amazon purchases, I stumbled on this forum.

Soon thereafter, I found a set of 1,000 H-mold solids on eBay at a price which was probably inflated, but it gave me a taste of the better life. Then graduated to a similarly-sized set of THCs.

first post.
i started collecting $1 casino chips from all the casinos i've played at. after recognizing the casino quality compared to what we use in our home games, i am now faceted with upgrading our home poker chips/supplies.

Same exact thing for me. I've been collecting casino singles since the mid 90's. It still bugs me that there are a handful of casinos that I've played at that I forgot to pick up a souvenir chip. eBay helps out with that though.

Agree with @chrismurda and @Mangatang - I only take chips back from a winning trip at a casino. After so many decades, I've got a full rack of them. One night, after playing in my home game, I was just staring at the rack and I wondered "why am I still playing with these shitty chips?" I started looking at reviews on YouTube, found @Hobbyphilic , found PCF, and then found @T_Chan ... and like $6,000 later, here I am. Dammit. DAMMIT!

And I've just scratched the tip of the iceberg here. There's so much more to explore...

Got a chip case as a gift since I... ugh... had over 1,000 dice chips. I saw they didn't look right in the case and figured I could find something nicer. One google search led me to hobbyphilic's youtube channel which led me to the pokerchip pr0n thread and now I'm here!

Edit: The case now holds 1,000 scrolls and I can't wait to get different sets!
