Still new here and Im looking to get some racks better than the amazon ones I have. I know there are some with top covers, some short, some tall etc... But I haven't been able to decide. Everyone talks about them but seems to already know what the difference is so new guys just see Bud Jones , Matsui, Paulson, Chipco etcc... Thrown around but we have no idea why you would want one or the other.

Anyone with some stock able to provide some comparison photos or basic details? I'm not sure what I want but I think I want something with a top thats stackable.

@Hobbyphilic I think this would be a good video for you or Chris to add to your channels. I couldn't find any good rack reviews in a quick YouTube search.

A rack is not a rack a rack rackitty rack. Even ones that may fit your chips quite well aren’t good because of design flaws like mold impression / flash that will scrape the edges of the chips in the rack below them.

Great idea.

The biggest difference is the slight differences in width. The most common Paulson racks at casino's - bottom says Paulson 20100 or 20401 or something - you will literally have to squeeze in a barrel of mint Paulson's with no wiggle room to spare, and my barrels of BCC's wont even fit in them. Then there are a brands of similar racks that say the exact millimeter width on the bottom and those I find to have slightly scalloped barrels affecting sharp chips, the first and last of the barrel pop up a little, and I don't like to stack anything on top of those.

The way I started discerning rack brands was just occasionally taking them from poker rooms and getting to see all the differences first hand. But around these parts it's a Paulson rack 80% of the time.

I didn't know what DDLM was at first, but searched, (ahh.. Dia De Los Muertos) and saw @Irish has a set -- he should know what racks fit & work well.

DDLM will be in play tomorrow night, 14 runners so far.

Which ones have the top that encloses the chips? 39mm *
In my experience. the racks with the big dome top are crap. And they don't stack. There are also plastic boxes (4x25 I believe) that come with tops. Those can be piled flat on top on each other, but it still isn't an interlocking stacking situation. The matsui racks might be what you're looking for, but I have no experience with those.

Believe you're talking about the Matsui's, the eggshell racks?

Some more notes:
-Bud Jones racks are wide AF and have a frosted part down the middle
-Cheap Amazon racks, DaVinci's, all rather wide but thin and cheap, can look nice, thinner is clearer, but the feel is cheap and thin
-Most birdcages come with racks that say Made in China which are still thin, a little thicker than DaVinci, but a good width for thick chips, some wiggle room but minimal on my BCCs
-Paulson and Bud Jones boxes with tops, semi-opaque white plastic ones, great for storage, very tight all around on a mint Paulson barrel

I'm looking for something that will fit in this 6 rack versa case.

I use Chipco racks for my DDLMs, they fit perfectly:

These are the newer clear plastic Chipcos (I forget who had these made, Joe at Palm?) But they're the exact same mold as the normal Chipco racks that are made of the softer almost pliable plastic. I find those older ones are actually more durable, but these are crystal clear so they look nicer on display.

I could have sworn we had a pretty comprehensive rack information thread around here somewhere, don't we?

Genuine question: In a Pelican-type case, would you use card boxes (the ones regularly used by CPC, for example) instead of plastic/acryllic racks?
Especially if the racks (now card boxes) are intented to rest on the lower layer of ones?

I had my DDLM chips in Chipco racks at first, but I recently got some 67.7mm racks and they are my new favorite. They're just a hair wider.

I do, but racks seem to be more popular for the convenience factor. I don’t hear much complaining about rack checks either, which is why I decided to use boxes in the first place.

Rack checks aren't caused by storing chips in racks. They are caused by overzealous dealers and cage personnel who strike a rack of chips along the side using another chip to ensure each barrel is full -- potentially causing damage to the faces of chips in the rack and to the edge of the chip being used. It's a stupid needless practice.
