I am aware of the fact that many scenes from Star Trek, not only Original Series but also Deep Space 9 and Next Generation shown some forms of gambling. Not only poker but some sort of rullette game called "Dabou". With so much material from the lore I have never seen any Star Trek themed chips. Have you? Any Trekkers here?
By the way do you know that even in 23rd century they use KEMs for serious human/android game?

I made these for a friend who wanted to start hosting his own game. Both he and his wife were huge Star Trek geeks. Since I'm also a fan of the ST universe, this was the easiest chip design project I've ever taken on.

Anyone following this thread is probably aware of what Section 31 is. If you are not, in short, Section 31 is the Federation's "Black-Ops" division. Each chip is 2-sided. The obverse with a metal Starfleet logo reflecting the base chip color and the denom in a spot color. The Reverse has a different ship from the series and a spot matching denom and club name.

  • T25 Enterprise NX-01
  • T100 Voyager
  • T1000 Defiant
  • T5000 Enterprise NCC-1701
The ship-denom selection was intended to be from the weakest ship to the most powerful, but that would put the defiance on the T5000, which would see little play. Since DS9 was the couple's favorite series, Kirk and crew were shifted to the T5000. Besides, we all know Kirks swagger and Spock's awesomeness would still manage a win over the rest of the fleet.

The friend later divorced, and the chips were given away to another guy that wanted to start hosting. That guy is not a Star Trek fan (in fact he dislikes the show), and eventually bought plastic sluggos to replace them.

Since the games are usually held on nights I'm not available, I'm unsure of what became of the Trek chips. These are among the few pictures I have of them.

Well hope they not MIA. But for the future reference... If you try explain what Section 31 is for someone not familiar with ST, just tell them it's like CIA. They get the gęste...

I'm very familiar with star trek and I can't recall ever hearing about section 31

Hilton made some Star Trek chips, but they are just $5 singles. The Kirk and Spock are quite valuable, the rest are $10-15 each.

Stay tuned then. CBS has announced another TV series that will be centered around Section 31, staring Michelle Yeoh and her character Philippa Georgiou from the Discovery series.

My guess - Discovery has seriously underperformed, but the Georgiou character was the light in the show. So it's spin-off time!

I still to see Picard. But I am not sure I am ready for another spin off.

..........................................................................from a StarWars fan.

Star Wars failed to play poker in any of it's numerous seedy bar/cantata scenes. A variation of chess, sure, but the intergalactic powerhouse of poker was ignored.

Therefore Star Trek > Star Wars. :cool

...but I like them both

I couldn’t get through the premier of Discovery. Didn’t watch much of the Scott bacula one either. Loved all the others, though

Archer is a biggest duche in galaxy...

ok I get DS9 casino, there was other worlds that were still in an currency backed economy.

But what were the crew of the Enterprise gambling for, since Earth no longer had a currency based system. Gene R. was a bit of a socialist and felt that man would evolve from his primitive nature of self wealth development into everyone works towards the advancement of humanity.

Discovery was painful, but it had promise.

Re-written timelines, terrible cinematography, a barely likable heroine. It felt like someone's basement RPG put onto film. Still, the series held promise (and that ties in to the Section 31 spin). I just wish CBS instead would have hired the Axanar team (instead of suing them) to get a really good series.

In a world without currency, playing with shipmates would be the same as playing a game when you were a kid. Winning for the sake of besting your peers. There was one scene in ST:TNG where Picard plays for the first time. They just give him chips. No buy-in, just get chips. Then play, try to win, and be social.

I liked Anaxar because of Richard Hatch and Kate Vernon... I am BSG fan... Wait.. They played poker on Galactica

I get that, but you ever see the idiots on online poker where its play money....every other call is ALL-IN

Star Trek is good, but how about some Stargate chips?!

SG was also a great series...

but i would say Babylon 5 (IMHO ....... tv SCI fi series GOAT) would make an awesome chip set...... Andreas Katsulas (gkar) and Peter Jurasik were incrediable in the series and elevated the show to a new level. The shadow wars .... chaos vs order
