Poker cheating device (2 Viewers)

It sounds like you have to buy a deck of card that are marked, the "phone" is the device that reads the card..So the phone needs to be on the table.

These have been around quite a while, can find some frightening stuff on youtube, and some stories from PCFers about possible use in home games. RFID deck and reader --> earpiece.

This is all very fishy too me. That seems like a bait article to get you to send $1300 via Western Union to China...

About 4 years ago there was a big scandal in the local poker community when the same or similar device was used at a juicy 2-5 game for 3-4 months before the cheaters were caught. Amazingly to me, nobody was shot or even roughed up. Just perma-banned of course. No cell phones on the table and change decks if there are any doubts

The only DECKS on my tables are those I buy.. I had someone offer for me to use his cards and I politely refused (not that I thought he was cheating) just because I do not want any OUTSIDE anything at my games.... Im the bank, I am 1 of 2 dealers (shaggy is the second, we sit opposite and no one ells touches the decks), and we use the chips I have.

Problem is when you go to someone elses game that does not have the same scruples.

Keeping yourself in a secure game environment is your own responsibility. If you're oblivious to your surroundings and are getting cheated for months on end, the guilty parties may as well do this since you're not protecting yourself:

To anyone wary of this; Check the sides of the cards. These decks are marked on the sides of each card and if you look closely it's easy to spot them. If you can't see any of that, your deck is safe.

Those are el cheapo playing cards. If you wear them out enough, would you be able to expose the RFID strips in them?

They use a regular bicycle deck on purpose, but then add the strips on the side. The way to tell is one corner is cut sharper than the other. You can see it with the naked eye if you look hard enough.

There's no rfid. The referenced system uses an optical barcode printed in infrared ink along the edge of each card, not the fronts or backs. The device illuminates the side of the deck with infrared leds and takes a picture of it. Then image processing decodes every card in the entire deck.(!) Tell the software what game is being played and how many players and it suddenly knows where they will all go and who has the best hand.

Since cameras can be hidden anywhere, are continually improving, and the edge of a deck cannot be kept secret, you have a real serious problem if the host of the game is the cheater.

If the cheater is coming into the game from outside, they have to bring their camera with them and get their marked deck into play either by surreptitiously swapping it out or else socially engineering you to accept their "brand new" outside deck as legitimate. This is not so different from the threat of any kind of marked deck getting into the game - but it is way more effective at reading them if the deck is successfully introduced. I would think that before long the camera will be integrated into eyeglass frames so the cheater only has to look at the deck to point the camera. It won't be enough to keep objects off the table. You need to keep the marked deck from entering play.

As a defense, I would at minimum choose randomly from a variety of decks with different cardback styles so the cheat cannot predict which will be in use. If they bring Bicycle blue and you're using green Copag that night, they're out of 'luck'...

If I went to a card game where they were using paper cards, I'd happily give the host a plastic deck.
