Just applied for a job in Denver (1 Viewer)

Good luck! As I just hit my 10 year mark with my current company, I can imagine the nerves you must be feeling. (I'd hate to lose the extra week of vacation I just got)

Negotiate for the extra vacation time if you change jobs. its often easier to get extra time off than extra money.

I did this myself when I changed jobs within the same company five years ago. At the time I had almost 10 years of service and during the negotiations I let it slip that it burned me to no end that Tom Harry Dick can be hired off the street and come in at four weeks vacation without knowing where the mens room was, and yet I, as a faithful schmuck was just about to get my fourth week after being with the company for 10 years having paid my dues the whole way, starting at two weeks until five years then getting up to three until 10 years. Guess who gets four weeks of vacation plus an extra week of personal time now?

Truth be told while the vacation thing bothered me I was perhaps a little more adamant during the negotiations that I would have been otherwise. Companies see it as free and it is when it comes to absolute dollars in someone's cost center. It's just a question of your workload being covered. If you are salaried like me it really does cost them nothing because I end up making up my own work later.

Company reached out today to setup an interview via skype w/their production team. I'm not sure which of the two positions I'm being considered for...possibly both. I'm told they had triple-digit resumes to weed through and they're conducting less than 10 interviews, so if nothing else my CV/resume skills are up to snuff.

Interview will likely be Tuesday or Thursday of next week.

Let the games begin...

Good Luck Scott. I am sure they will find out during the interview you are a great person!!!

Good luck with the job. We spent the last week in Colorado, mainly Estes, Lyons, Boulder. I dreamed up a scheme to move to Estes Park and retire into a small Bed and breakfast gig.. But that got me thinking about the poker scene there... Does it exist?

I know Denver is covered well...

Yeah, vacation isn't really time off for many of us. You still have to do the work, either before you go or when you return. When you think about it, vacation is really flex time writ large.

That means you will quit somewhere else. Man, if I ever quit, I want to do it like this:

Interview is this afternoon. Never have I felt such a peculiar mix of nerves, excitement, and confidence!

I looked up the folks who I'd be interviewing with on LinkedIn. On one hand, it's good to know who's in the room with me. On the other hand...uh...intimidation. The titles they've produced, the work they've done, and the folks they've worked with is stellar, and frankly, I don't rate sitting at the same table as them professionally. But somehow I was one of the few chosen to get an interview...

Meh. I figure I'm holding A5s & am a little short-stacked. Gonna see the flop at any cost, get it all-in post, and hope for a little help from the dealer.

Just came back from Denver- met my first grandchild.
Between 1 son going to Colorado and the other living there now, would say that Denver is one my fav cities. Been there more than a dozen times and theres a good vibe there.

Started reading this thread today, and almost replied to your first post that if youre really really nervous the dispensaries in town might help.

Good luck and hope you get what you want.

I've come to find out a few additional tidbits...

- Supposedly there are three or four employees there that played poker professionally or semi-professionally. That could mean a myriad of things, but one thing it definitely tells me is that some folks there enjoy poker (y)
- The Sr. Producer apparently had nice things to say after the interview. Got no specifics, but that's better than, "Well, that was a waste of time."
- The Executive Producer stated that the questions I asked in the interview were some of the best he's heard in his life.
