Just started but I thought I would share some pics of the progress. Holy smokes they look so much better. 1000 is going to take some time... More pics to follow

Just a quick update on some of the $5 I did. You can already tell a huge difference from the oiled chips and the ones with the factory "dust". Only 900 more to go...

It goes quicker than you think. I did mine in front of the TV. All 1,100+ of them. Once you get going, you cant really stop haha.

Fully agree. The oil makes a huge diffs in color. HUGE. Well worth it. Does oil evaporate? I left my chips for 3 days and its seems like the oil has disappeared. Evaporated or soaked in? However I am doing a final wipe with a paper towel and I can see some residue coming off (evening some color, like the purple $500s, and the black $100s left color on the towel). What I do miss though is that chalky/dusty feel to them when I first got them. Gave me more of a clay type feel. With the oil, it feels more plasticky. But the color > chalk feel IMO.

What about smell? A few barrels of 25c smelled terrible. That smells lingers. I can still smell it at work if I close my eyes. WTF is that????? The rest of the chips were fine'ish smell wise (some had zero odor, others had some odor, some stronger than others). Its not a big deal. Its not like I'll be sniffing the chips at the table. Will the smell transfer to your fingers? But makes me wonder about consistency/quality control. Someone mixed a bad batch on the 25cs.... I think the oil helped a bit though. Or perhaps airing them out individually did? Im sure over time they will lose the odor. Would it be a good idea to lay them out on the table for a couple of weeks so that they can breathe and hopefully lose the smell altogether? Do these chips in fact lose their smell?

Also, what about stickers? Quite a few $5s had lose stickers (maybe 20-25 of them). Not that they peel off or anything, but while turning them for final drying, I could hear the sticker popping back and forth. Worries me a bit. I hope they dont come off over time. And it wasnt the oil. None of the other chips are like this. Just the $5s. Anyone ever have this issue? Replace these suckers?

As for stacking dimensions. The chips are 100% identical, within the SAME denom. I stacked 80 and checked a couple of the denoms. Same heights. But when comparing across denoms, there are clear differences. Some barrels on my trays can squish and extra chip in here and there (so 21 not 20, and a whole chip diffs over only 20 diffs is a 5% margin of error, not good). But its not easy to push it in there. You know when you've hit the 20 mark so its not a big deal. Chips stack great BTW. Would be nice though to have consistent heights. Not sure if its in my head, but the $1s feel lighter, thinner, cheaper vs something like the $5s. Could just be the weighted colors not sure. I will stack 80 X $1s and 80 X $5s tonight see check the height diffs.

Colors are all great except for the $1000. A pale yellow. Not the end of the world, but more of a weighted yellow would have been a much better choice for these chips. The black $100 is my favorite.

Overall these chips are fantastic. I love 'em. If Ace King slugged chips cost $1000, I would like to see these chips cost $1800, and not the current $2600 price level. Its a big premium IMO. But given the limited lower priced options for decent higher end chips, these Milanos seem to hit the spot and you have to pay up to get something decent. I would highly recommend them to anyone on a budget looking for decent chips.

So yeah, I did some investigation last night.

The $1000 chips are definitely not like the previous batch. I got some singles as spares, and they have much better color to them. I was disappointed with the $1000s, but after seeing how yellow the previous chips were, this new batch looks poor. Someone mixed to much black pigment in....... The photos dont do the difference justice. The chips on the left are the better batch.

The $25s are also different. The ones of the left are the previous patch, and much greener. Again, the photos at night, regular incandescent light, dont do the diffs justice.

As for the rest of the denoms, they are all fine color wise. The 25c batch clearly smells like chemicals. I hope it goes away. The $5s labels are loose.

I just received my $.25 and $.50 that were backordered. The $.25's look pretty fugly. The brown is like a really weird brown... I oiled those up and they looks a lot better than they did but not great. The other thing was the that the black must have been out or low when they printed the labels because the script and denominations are almost purple in color. Not a big fan but I needed them to complete the set. Just makes me get a better set for a tourney set next time.

Yeah the quality control issue is real.

But give the 25c chip a chance. We had a game last night and I received many compliments on the chips. They worked great. I'm not in love with the brown color, but it's not bad either. However, the yellow $1000s are driving me nuts. I really don't like this batch. Too much purple die mixed into the yellow. It's crappy. Arghhhh.

Anything I can do? Initiate a return? Buy from a different batch?

Oh an BG - what China clay tops your list?

Are any of your brown 25c chips faded on the side? For example, when you stack a barrel and look at the edges, are they a consistent color?

Batch to batch consistency is a problem with any chip manufacturer... let alone China... because its, well... you know... China.

At some point I'd love to tour a chip production factory to know the whole process as far as real clay chips go. When I placed my CPC order I was somewhat surprised at the two month lead time but I figured it was just due to volume. David explained that it wasn't so much that they were backed up but rather the clay has to be made two months in advance.

That's where people have had crazy wait times - if you pick a mold that isn't in constant use and you place your order as that cycle is ending they can't just tack you on to the end because the clay hasn't aged enough or whatever that step requires.

If that's an industry-wide practice it also makes sense why Paulson can turn orders around quickly. I've heard they run something like 250 molds. With that going on and their order minimums they probably always have properly aged clay in every color, or at least the more standard ones on hand ready to use.

Some chips I have in my stacks are a wildly different color (darker/ dirtier or more 'used' looking) - if I oil them should I oil the darker miscolored ones to try to get them to match the 'better' ones or should I oil all of them?

What kind of chips are they?

Nice! What a difference! I am going to definitely do this for the 750 set I just purchased. They still look pretty new with that chalky dust coated on most of the chips. I love how brighter and bolder the colors look.

I ran in to a chip consistency problem recently...

Have a bunch of Monte Carlo chips, don't know why I had such a odd grouping of them but I found that I only needed 50 more to make a good 500-set that I could sell off. The local shop was closed for spring break so I ordered some online - and they were quite different. Where the chip used to be white it is now yellow! Went to the local shop yesterday and all of theirs are the same way. Every place I look online they have the yellow coloring rather than white. Grrrrrr

So I have a choice...
Try to sell the set with 2 slightly different $25 chips (nope, I wouldn't be happy buying it that way),
Tweak the counts so I have 50 of other denominations (maybe)
Buy 150 more of the 'new' color and try to sell my old ones online. Hopefully selling the old ones would make up for the cost of acquiring the new ones. lol
